‘‘You can’t take our guns”

You could say there is too much violence in the streets today. You could say there are too many criminals in the streets today. You could even say that there are too many guns in the hands of  criminals today. But when you say that the gun is the reason for all this violence I have to disagree.

Guns do not kill and hurt people, people hurt people. Taking guns away from people violent or not, is not going to fix the issues with murders and other gun related crimes. I shouldn’t have to remind you that criminals are where they are today because they broke the law. If you take guns away from all people, really you are just taking guns away from innocent people. Just because it is written on paper to not have a gun is not going to stop a rapper, robber, real gangster, or a thug from getting their hands on a gun. In MLK’s writing on page 270 he says “T.S. Elliot says there is no greater treason than to do the right thing for the wrong reason.” This is doing something with a good idea but it just will not work.

I believe owning a gun is the most American thing we can hold on to today. It is our protection from opposing nations, our defense when times get rough. It is our symbol of strength and independence. It gives off intimidation to the bad, while giving strength to the weakest link of our nation. It is what won our freedom from European nations, what kept our freedom from in the world wars, and tomorrow just down the road it is what is going to keep us the best nation in the world.

It gives American teenagers an alternative from bad hobbies, and gets them outdoors. I know from my personal experience I wouldn’t be the  same today without the tradition my dad has passed down to me. He took me deer hunting when I could not even hold my gun up on my own. He would tell me the history behind each worn out gun, tell me every person that  looked down that cold worn out barrel while I pressed it  against my cheek. He would tell me how each of the guns was a tradition in its own way, and when I held it I was part of its legend. To me, when you try to take my guns you are taking away my past. When you snatch them up you are breaking a tradition that is older than the United States itself.

The 2nd amendment written 1791 in  the US constitutions states that the US will protect the rights of the individual to keep and bear firearms. We as a nation made this amendment part of our foundation. Taking away one of the rights we have today as a free nation is the most wrong and un-American things the leaders of this country could do. You are not messing with sissy princesses drinking coffee and strolling through the park when you go against America. Like King said in a letter from Birmingham City Jail “I hope this letter finds you strong in the faith.”  Because, here we stand up  for what we believe, God, family, and our guns!
